Pat Duke grew up in Novato, California
(which is in Marin County just above the Golden Gate) in the 60's.
He attended UCLA and graduated with a degree in Engineering in 1984.
While a student at UCLA, he worked at the University Research Library on
campus, spending 3 and a half years there, doing everything from shelving
books to supervising other students.
After graduating, Pat moved to Oakland and worked as an Engineer for a while,
but always pined for his days in the library. In 1987, he quit his job, found a
new one at the UC Berkeley Chemistry Library, where he spent 6 years and met his
partner, Siobhan Murphy.
Pat went back to school in 1994, and received a Master's in Library and Information
Science from San Jose State University in 1996.
He started working at the Wilsonville Public Library in August 1996, as a 24 hour
per week Reference Librarian.
He has slowly worked himself into increasing responsibility at the library
and is currently Library Director.
Pat is a member of the American Library Association, Public Library Association,
and Oregon Library Association. He was Chair of the Oregon Library Association's
Intellectual Freedom Committee from 1997 to 1999, ran for OLA President and lost
in 2006, has been on the Executive Board of OLA twice, and is currently a member
of the OLA Legislative Committee.
He and Siobhan have two children, Jeremy, 9 years, and Molly 14 years. He lives
in Beaverton, and looks forward to the commuter rail that is to start running between
Beaverton and Wilsonville in September 2008. |
