![]() Dave Edwards, Immediate Past President of the KDCCP Board of directors, told our club about what KDCCP has been doing and it's present progress. So far Kiwanis since 1987 has raised a little over $2.1 million. This past year the KDCCP wrote a check to Doernbecher Children's Hospital for $170,000. He stated the most common child's cancer was leukemia. 40 years ago it was a death sentence, now they have 85 to 90% 5 year cure rate. They have also made advances on other children's cancers. The money the KDCCP raises goes towards training fellowships. Doctors of Pediatrics come to Doernbecher to be trained to be children cancer doctors. So far they have graduated 8 Kiwanis Fellows the very first one went to Portland, Main; another to the Army Hospital in Washington DC; one still at Doernbecher, and the rest all over the U. S. They will be helping children with cancer for next 20 - 30 + years. |
