The Wilsonville Kiwanis Outreach Program:

With the support of the City of Wilsonville community matching grant program and the generosity of our sponsors, in-kind donors and volunteers, we are able to offer the Kids Fun Run and picnic at no charge so that all who want to participate can do so regardless of ability to pay. However, we do welcome donations to help us defray the cost of the event.

Furthermore, the sponsorship money we don’t have to spend to put on the event is returned to the community as grants to support youth programs and help young people participate in youth activities. In 2008/2009 to date the Wilsonville Kiwanis Outreach Program provided funds to:

  • Inza R. Wood Middle School Wellness Teachers, Bike Safety program, for bikes and equipment.
  • Key Club, Wilsonville High School.
  • Kiwanis International Foundation to support the World Vision program.
  • Friends of Wilsonville Center.
  • Boys and Girls Aid.
  • Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership (HOBY) program to enable a Wilsonville High School sophomore student to attend the national leadership congress.
  • Oregon Health Career Center.
  • Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp for physically disadvantaged youth.
  • Wilsonville Community Sharing, to support the Community Gardens Project.
  • Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Cancer program.
  • Scholarship to a graduating senior at Wilsonville High School in recognition of outstanding leadership.
  • Cub Pack 528 to acquire a US flag, pole and eagle for club ceremonies.
  • Wood Middle School.
  • Oregon Health Career Center to support Cool School.

Other outreach activities

  • Kiwanis is the official sponsor of the Wilsonville Kiwanis High School Key Club, which is devoted to helping teens cultivate leadership skills.  Key Club International is the largest high school service organization in the world. The Key Club at Wilsonville High School is the largest club in the school.
  • Kiwanis volunteers will help implement the forthcoming Cool School in June 2010.
  • Provide volunteers to the Challenge Air Fly Date for kids with disabilities and special needs, help set up Fun in the Park, and actively volunteer in a variety of roles and service projects throughout the community.

Any community need can become a Kiwanis service project, especially the needs of children. In everything we do, Kiwanis seeks to exhibit the spirit of the national call to service and to show that, as a community, we can accomplish much even when times are tough.
